During 1960-1973, among thousands of Portuguese who left Portugal during this period, a group of around 100 deserters found residence in Denmark, many of them without ever having imagined this country as a destination.

The #ECOS project, through its partners at the University of Copenhagen, developed the book “Tak Susie! (Thank you Susie! Tales from and about Portuguese political refugees in Denmark (1961-1974)” which brings together a set of testimonies and stories from exiles and those who supported them on their arrival in Denmark.
Written in first person, the testimonies recall the moments experienced by some of the Portuguese who went into exile in this country, and also as a tribute to all those who supported them on their arrival and showed solidarity during the journey that followed them.
